A renowned epidemiologist and pathologist, George Dick is recognized internationally for his research into viral diseases, including yellow fever, Mengovirus and Merburgvirus. His distinguished career has produced vast knowledge on the virology of encephalitis, polio, hepatitis, multiple sclerosis, smallpox and whooping cough. He also has been instrumental in the development of combined vaccines against many viral diseases. He worked in the School's Poliomyelitis Laboratory from , where he researched polio virus vaccines while pursuing his master's degree.
George Frederick Dick July 21, — October 10, was an American physician and bacteriologist best known for his work with scarlet fever. Dick continued with his research into scarlet fever following the war, and in , in collaboration with his wife Gladys Rowena Dick , managed to locate the cause of the disease in a toxin produced by a strain of Streptococcus bacteria. Using this, they were able to create an antitoxin for treatment and a non-toxic vaccine for immunization. He was a professor of clinical medicine at Rush Medical College , Chicago —33 , and then became the head of the department of medicine at the University of Chicago —
